![]() ![]() In case we want the password be filled-in automatically, place it in $HOME/. Postgres will automatically prompt you for a password, if it is configured properly to require one. You should use psql -U postgres myapp instead. To use Media Server with a PostgreSQL database, you must download and install a PostgreSQL server and ODBC driver, and configure Media Server to connect to the database through the driver. It's the SU of PostgreSQL, and it opens you up for login-attacks against it. Open Terminal on Linux ( Ubuntu, etc) and go to to the folder where the nf file is located. By default Postgres only listens on localhost address, so this is the reason why you cannot remotely connect to it. You should not be setting up the postgres user. The nf file allows you to configure the IP addresses that Postgres uses to listen for connections to it. But, I believe this one has a dangerous primary answer. That will try to login as user "postgres" to a database named "password". at 2:57 4 This is very much the same as this question which was asked a year later. The password should never be specified on the commandline. # for users connected via local IPv4 or IPv6 connections, always require md5Īlso note that psql -U postgres password will not do what you want. # allow all other users to use "md5" authentication on Unix sockets # (as per recent comments, omit "sameuser" if on postgres 8.4 or later) ![]() Here is what the relevant parts of my pg_hba.conf look like: # allow postgres user to use "ident" authentication on Unix sockets Then you can use that user with passwords on local connections. ![]() I recommend creating another user (probably with your own username) and giving it admin privileges as well. In the first section of this chapter we describe how to interact with configuration parameters. By default I believe Ubuntu uses the "postgres" user to perform upgrades, backups, etc, and that requires that it is able to login without a specified password. There are many configuration parameters that affect the behavior of the database system. It is probably a good idea to leave the "postgres" user with ident authentication. ![]()
